To whatever gnome boobytrapped the espresso machine this morning: uncool. I’ll be looking for you as soon as I get caffeinated. And when I find you, you won’t be comfortable. (Note: I am aware that this gnome might hide for a long, long time and may, in fact, be invisible. This does not overly bother me. Contemplating the revenge I will mete out is the point of this exercise.)
So the very last vestiges of the Cold From Hell are fading slowly. This last weekend we had the Ask A Working Writer event and a birthday party, and both severely taxed my vocal reserves. Tonight I’m (shhh!) taking the Princess (she wishes to be referred to as Astronomy Girl from now on) out to see Coraline. She’ll love it. I am not sure how I will feel about it, but I’m game.
But now, I have revisions. And a limited window before we have more birthday stuff to do this week. *headdesk* I should just not schedule ANYTHING in March, but each year, I do.
Big thanks to the Selkie, and to Carolyn Rose and Mike Nettleton for having me at the mixer, and to the Mooncrab for various and sundry things (you know what they are).
And now, revisions. And for your reading pleasure, a Guy Gavriel Kay article about writers and blogging (snurched from Barb Hendee. TEAM LEESIL!) I met Guy at a convention once (I think it was in the bar at World Fantasy that one year) and he was wonderfully polite and interesting to talk to. It’s odd to see him in print talking about blogging, because I associate him so much with Tigane. Wow. My brain, she is not quite broken, but close…
And this is why I tell writers not to get involved in Internet imbroglios and never, ever to respond to reviews, positive or negative. The dynamic GGK is talking about here can cut you, as easily as it can be used to cut down some brush and make yourself “accessible” to fans. Accessibility is one thing. Misusing Internet “intimacy”–and getting bit by it–is another.
Over and out…
